Personal safety
Use well-lit, populated routes at night, keep valuables out of sight, and travel with others when possible.
Communications
Monitor local news and official channels for updates on protests, policing, and airport incidents; ensure your phone is charged.
Transit
Allow extra time at airports and for transfers during active investigations or heightened policing; follow airline and airport staff instructions.
Weather
Carry waterproof protection and plan for reduced visibility in fog and drizzle; expect cooler temperatures later in the week.

Avoidance
Avoid the immediate area near W 20th St & 8th Ave (Chelsea) at night and be cautious in nearby blocks.
A recent fatal stomping occurred outside a Manhattan storefront in Chelsea; a suspect has been charged.
Protest awareness
If you see or hear about protests related to the ICE shooting or NYPD handling, avoid demonstration areas and allow for potential travel disruptions.
Mayor-directed NYPD use-of-force review and ensuing criticism have been linked to protests after a recent ICE shooting, increasing the likelihood of localized demonstrations.
